PlayOn Desktop is Here!
After almost a year of development, this fall we launched the PlayOn Desktop app. It's a whole new way to PlayOn!
What's New: We created a PC desktop view into PlayOn - where you can see featured shows/movies and a channel view into the 100 PlayOn channels. You can watch any of the shows available for free right there on your desktop. We retired the PlayLater apps and brand and bundled them into PlayOn as PlayOn Recording. AdSkip is still available! We migrated MyMedia into the PlayOn Media Library. There is still a MyMedia channel on the Roku, but you'll get a much better experience if you view your PlayOn Media Library through the PlayOn channel on the Roku - available here: https://owner.roku.com/Add/PLAYON. We also added in "subscriptions" which automatically records new episodes of your favorite shows as soon as they are available. So - there's always something you and watch on your TV or tablet with AdSkip. I gotta say - the treadmill is much less painful when I get to watch an episode of my favorite show without ads! No time to think about how exhausted/in pain I am! We also added "off-peak recording" - it's the little moon next to your Record Queue icon. It lets you set up what times your subscriptions are recorded so you can use your bandwidth when its cheapest. These were the 2 most requested features - so we are delighted to release them to our user base.
$$$: As part of this new release, we also launched a new business model. We are offering PlayOn desktop for free. You can watch anything on your PC or cast/stream your own media via the Media Library to your TV or mobile - all free. Alternately, you can upgrade to PlayOn Plus [which you can pay for monthly, yearly, or buy a lifetime subscription for a one-time fee]. Plus unlocks the recording, subscriptions and AdSkip features as well as the cast/stream from any PlayOn channel or plugin to the TV/mobile. We are hoping this gets PlayOn in a lot more hands, and that people who were hesitant to move to OTT/streaming TV will see the Desktop app and it will look so familiar that it will help them "cut-the-cord." We are also hoping that the low monthly price will make PlayOn accessible to many more folks.
